전쟁의 흔적 그리고 군인

- 전쟁의 흔적 -
DMZ는 야외로 나온 전쟁박물관과 같다.
60년 전 참혹했던 전쟁이 이 땅을 휩쓸고 간 뒤부터 DMZ는 비극과 희생의 사소한 흔적들까지 끝내 품었고 흘려 보내지 않았다.
총알자국이 곰보처럼 박힌 표지판이, 금방 무너져 내릴 것 같은 시가지의 폐허가, 녹슬어버린 철조망과 쇠사슬이 60년 전 그 자리에 지켜 서서 우리의 잊혀진 전쟁을 웅변한다.
길게 이어졌던 철길은 끊어졌고 달리던 열차는 먼지를 뒤집어쓴 채 멈춰 섰지만, 포탄이 낸 구멍 사이에도 꽃은 피어나고 잘려버린 다리 위로 새가 날아든다.
To many, the DMZ is a living, outdoor war memorial. It has preserved the tragedy and sacrifices of a war that swept across the Korean Peninsula 60 years ago. A sign with bullet marks, the ruins of deserted towns about to crumble down, the rusty barbed-wire fences and iron chains—these vestiges of war remind us of a painful moment in our history. Long rails have been broken and trains have stopped, covered in dust. At the same time, flowers bloom between the bullet holes and birds fly over broken bridges.
